Rouane off the mark

21 May 2026

It was great to see Rouane off the mark on Thursday.

Having run a good second on her second start at Newbury last season, the Oasis Dream filly made the perfect start to her three-year-old campaign with a wide-margin success under Silvestre de Sousa in the 6f maiden at Catterick.

Trained by Andrew Balding, Rouane is out of Lonely Rock, a Fastnet Rock half-sister to our Listed winner Princess Loulou, herself the dam of our champion and multiple Group 1 winner Nashwa. It's a family that we know really well since Princess Loulou is also dam of our recent Listed Quebec Stakes scorer Nebras.

Both Princess Loulou and Nashwa are now in the broodmare band; Princess Loulou has a yearling Frankel colt named Nasheed and a filly foal by Dubawi and Nashwa's first foal is a colt, also by Dubawi.

A foal purchase, Rouane was bred by David and Trish Brown of Furnace Mill Stud.
