With a brave and determined effort, Hotazhell became the second winner of the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes to be bred and raised at Blue Diamond Stud on Saturday.

Already a two-time Group 1 winner following victories in the Vertem Futurity and Grosser Dallmayr Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen, Hotazhell answered every call of Shane Foley's to nose out Wimbledon Hawkeye in this prestigious Group 1 and join our homebred Decorated Knight on its roll of honour. 

Trained by Jessica Harrington on behalf of Silverton Hill Partnership, the son of Too Darn Hot now boasts a record of six wins for over £1.1 million in earnings.

"We've really always thought the world of Hotazhell," said Jessica Harrington. "Last year was just one of those years, things just didn't go right for him. Even at the beginning of this year, he took a while to get going. Shane is very strong, but the horse is very tough. He knows where the winning post is and he put his head down on the line.

“I didn’t think he deserved to be 50-1, he’d won a Group One in Germany last time and came here in good form.

“If you look up all his form from last year it was on ground that was too quick for him. He kept on trying, he got his conditions today and he went and did it."

Hotazhell was bred by Blue Diamond Stud out of our winning homebred Azenzar, a Danehill Dancer relation to the top-flight mare Alexander Goldrun.

He was sold in the Blue Diamond Stud draft at the 2023 Tattersalls October Sale to Eddie Linehan of Lackendarra Stables, who resold him as a Craven breezer to current connections.
