Decorated Knight provided Blue Diamond Stud with one of the landmark points in its history when becoming our first homebred Group 1 winner in the Jebel Hatta at Meydan.
The son of Galileo is the first foal out of Blue Diamond’s foundation mare Pearling, a sister to champion sire Giant’s Causeway and blue hen You’resothrilling.
After showing useful form as a three-year-old, Decorated Knight hit full stride as an older horse for Roger Charlton, rattling off wins in the Listed Festival Stakes at Goodwood and Group 3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown.
He returned better than ever at five. Trained with a tilt at Meydan’s Super Saturday in mind, Decorated Knight struck in the Group 3 Winter Derby Trial on his seasonal debut before heading to Dubai, where he turned in a brilliant performance to capture the Jebel Hatta.
He later followed up in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, where he coped with the unfavourable good to soft conditions in admirable style to fend off the late challenge of Somehow.
By then, Decorated Knight was on a steep upward curve and confirmed his talent as an elite performer with a brave second to Highland Reel in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot before defeating Europe’s best with a brilliant winning performance in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes; still last turning for home, Decorated Knight produced a powerful turn of foot to swoop past Poet’s Word and win going away with Churchill and Zhukova well beaten.
Decorated Knight later stood at the Irish National Stud.
