Impressive novice win for homebred May Angel
28 July 2025
Benefitting greatly from his first run at Newmarket, homebred May Angel looked a smart colt in the making when running out the impressive winner of the 7f novice at Southwell for John and Thady Gosden on Monday evening.
Settled just off the leaders by Hollie Doyle, the Dark Angel colt jumped into the bridle with two furlongs to go and didn't have to be asked a serious question to pull clear for a wide-margin win.
"A massive improvement from first to second run," said Hollie Doyle. "The form of his race at Newmarket is working out well. I really like him, he gave me a nice feel and he's got such a nice mind - when you've got a good mind you're halfway there.
"He jumped quite smartly and he travelled well. I took a lead and between the three and the two, he did it very easily.
"He's a very striking horse. He's a homebred - that's always very important."
May Angel continues a great run for his dam May Angel, whose 3yo Bosphorus Rose has won three times this season for Sir Mark Prescott. The Lawman mare, who won twice for us and is a three-parts sister to Cable Bay, has a Zarak yearling filly and a colt foal by Pinatubo.
