Gamrai runs away with the Rosebery
28 March 2026
Homebred Gamrai made a brilliant return to action at Kempton on Saturday for John and Thady Gosden when running away with the Rosebery Handicap.
Always handy in the prestigious event under Rob Hornby, Gamrai swooped at the top of the stretch and lengthened clear for an impressive score from Whitcombe Rockstar.
"He'd shown a level of form last year," said Rob Hornby, who was riding Gamrai for the first time. "He was maybe still a bit unfurnished last year, and he's been gelded.
"To come out and deliver a performance like that against horses who have been running on the all-weather during the winter shows that he has plenty of talent - he's a lovely, big horse and we got into a real nice rhythm. He saw plenty in front during the last furlong and a half but he stayed straight and true."
He added: "We were drawn two and that was a positive if we got out on terms, which we did. We were able to get a relatively nice position and go from there. It's great for Imad, who is here today."
By Lope De Vega, Gamrai is out of our excellent mare Nouriya, whose daughter Aljazzi won the Listed Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes for us on this same Kempton card back in 2017. She later added the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge and Group 3 Atalanta Stakes to her record.
Nouriya, who was the stud's first homebred stakes winner, visits Justify this year.
