Evening double for BDS-breds

11 July 2025

Bosphorus Rose, bred and raised by Blue Diamond Stud, made it two wins for the season for Sir Mark Prescott on Thursday when striking in the 1m4f handicap at Epsom.

Placed on each of her first three starts as a two-year-old, the Golden Horn filly also won a Bath maiden back in May.

Bosphorus Rose is out of May Rose, our winning daughter of Lawman who is a half-sister to the Group 2 scorers Cable Bay and Sea Wolf.

May Rose also has a two-year-old colt by Dark Angel named May Angel with John and Thady Gosden, a yearling filly by Zarak and a colt foal by Pinatubo.

Bosphorus Rose was sold by us to her current connections as a foal at the 2022 Tattersalls December Sale.

Her Epsom win opened a winning double for graduates of Blue Diamond Stud as Gentleman Joe, a tough 7yo trained by Henry de Bromhead, later landed the Hurling For Cancer Research Race at Leopardstown. It was the fourth win for Gentleman Joe, who is a son of our Derby winner Authorized and out of Bella Lulu.

Winning jockey John Gleeson said: “I’m delighted, it’s nice to get another winner on him. He’s a lovely horse and has a good, honest, attitude.

“It was very straightforward. In a small runner field he enjoyed it lobbing away out in front. It was a nice performance by him.”
