Yuften: homebred impressed at Dundalk

Homebreds Yuften and Baadi provided an early highlight to the season on Monday evening when pulling off an impressive across-the-card double within an hour of each other.

At Dundalk, Yuften, who was second past the post in the 2013 Prix Jean Prat for William Haggas, showed plenty of his old zest to win the Dundalk Stadium Race hard held by nearly five lengths and lower the colours of the highly regarded Sir Isaac Newton.

It was only the horse’s second start for Johnny Murtagh and offered up the prospect of an exciting campaign.

Yuften is one of three stakes performers out of Blue Diamond foundation mare Majestic Sakeena, purchased by Tony Nerses for 200,000gns at the 2006 Tattersalls December Sale. Majestic Sakeena is also the dam of Listed winner Nouriya, herself dam of our highly regarded three-year-old Aljazzi, as well as the Listed-placed Lady Nouf.

Majestic Sakeena has a two-year-old filly by Galileo named Nadia Promise who is in training with William Haggas.

Meanwhile at Windsor, Baadi fulfilled the promise of his three-year-old campaign to get off the mark in the 1m2f maiden.

Making his first start for Charlie Fellowes, the son of Dansili made all the running under Andrea Atzeni to score by five lengths.

“It was fairly straightforward, I rode him like the best horse in the race,” Andrea Atzeni told At The Races. “He was always doing enough to win but probably wants better ground. It’s great to get a win on him for Charlie and the owners.”

Dashing, dam of Baadi

Baadi becomes the second winner out of Dashing, a Sadler’s Wells half-sister to Champion Alexander Goldrun and the Classic-placed Medecis purchased by Tony Nerses at the 2009 Tattersalls December Sale.

Dashing has a three-year-old filly by Oasis Dream named Mayflower Maid with John Gosden, a two-year-old colt by Lope De Vega named Oden with Roger Varian and a yearling filly by Iffraaj. She foaled a Mastercraftsman colt earlier this month and now visits Zoffany.

On what was a memorable evening, Yuften’s classy stablemate, Kasbah, came close to landing the treble when second in the 5f handicap at Dundalk. The son of Acclamation now boasts earnings of close to £50,000.
