Well Established! BDS-bred lands hot Newmarket handicap

11 July 2020

Establish, bred at Blue Diamond Stud by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, looked a colt of real potential on Saturday when landing the bet365 Mile Handicap on the July Cup undercard at Newmarket on Saturday.

Fresh from a deserved success at Bath, the Roger Varian-trained colt showed a determined attitude to deny the well-regarded Eastern World to win the competitive handicap by half-a-length with the Britannia Stakes runner-up Finest Sound well beaten in third.

“Establish has always threatened to be a nice horse,” said Varian. “He relaxed nicely in behind horses today and he quickened well at the end too. I’d like to think he could have a good handicap in him and we might look at something like the Cambridgeshire longer term.

He’s by Australia but there’s a lot of speed on the dam’s side of his pedigree, so I wouldn’t be rushing to step him up in trip yet .”

By Australia, Establish is the first winner out of Azenzar, a Blue Diamond Stud homebred who carried the colours of Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar to victory in a Leicester maiden during the spring of 2013.

By Danehill Dancer, Azenzar is out of Dashing, herself a half-sister to champion and multiple Group 1 winner Alexander Goldrun as well as the Classic-placed Medecis.

Azenzar also has a two-year-old colt by Gleneagles named Bautzen and a yearling colt by No Nay Never. She visited US Navy Flag this season.
