Tisa River’s first foal Bolt Action scores again

30 September 2022

Following several creditable efforts in stakes company, Tisa River’s first foal Bolt Action returned to winning ways on Thursday with a deserved success in a conditions race at Salisbury.

The Kessaar colt, trained by Roger Varian on behalf of Fawzi Nass and Victorious Racing, only had to be shaken up by David Egan to score cosily from Wallop.

Also successful on debut, Bolt Action has since been placed in the Listed Roses Stakes, Ripon 2yo Trophy and Harry Rosebery Stakes.

“Bolt Action has been nothing but consistent since he won,” said Egan. “He’s been beaten in those races, but has been consistent and he’s probably more comfortable over six furlongs, although on that slower ground it might just stretch him. I do think six is what he wants, but I don’t know if there’s a plan. He deserves to take his chance in a higher grade.”

Tisa River was purchased to join Blue Diamond Stud for 400,000gns at the 2020 Tattersalls December Sale. By Equiano, she boasts an illustrious female family as a daughter of blue hen Senta’s Dream; as such, she is a half-sister to the Group/Grade 1 winners Iridessa, a champion whose five victories included the Fillies’ Mile, Pretty Polly Stakes, Matron Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, fellow champion Order Of Australia, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile, and Santa Barbara, winner of the Belmont Oaks and Beverly D Stakes.

Her granddam Starine won the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf for Bobby Frankel.

Bolt Action was bred by Mohammed Al-Qatami and Khalid Al-Mudhaf and is the first foal out of Tisa River. The mare also has a yearling filly from the first crop of Blue Point and is in foal to Frankel.
