Successful return for Free Look

15 November 2023

We were delighted to see Free Look return as a winner in our colours on Wednesday when successful off a layoff in allowance company at Churchill Downs.

The daughter of Tapit was purchased earlier this year through Schumer Bloodstock at the Fasig-Tipton July Horses in Training Sale in Kentucky. She already had an accomplished record for Chad Brown highlighted by a second in the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes, and after being given some time off, was returned to training with Brad Cox.

Wednesday's race was originally scheduled for the turf but was switched on the day to dirt. Although Free Look hadn't raced on the surface before, she took to it well, travelling well in behind the leader before gaining the advantage with a big move up the rail. Under a hand drive from Florent Geroux, she always had enough in reserve to repel Best Performer to win cosily with the pair almost seven lengths clear of the third.

Free Look is out of the Medaglia d'Oro mare Wild Mint, a full-sister to leading sire Violence.
