Stakes breakthrough for Burhan

24 April 2025

Two days, two winners - fresh off the debut win of Eleganz at Saint-Cloud, it was Burhan's turn to shine at Longchamp on Thursday as winner of the Listed Prix du Pont Neuf.

A winner at Deauville last summer, the homebred son of Siyouni showed the benefit of his return, bursting through a gap under Alexis Pouchin to win easily from Afogado.

Like Eleganz, Burhan is trained by Andre Fabre.

"It's very important for Imad and his stable to win this race," said Teddy Grimthorpe. "Eleganz, who won yesterday at Saint-Cloud, was purchased, but Burhan is a product of the stud's breeding. This success is important for the broodmare.

"Today, Burhan accelerated very well; his performance was pleasing. The Prix Paul de Moussac could be next."

Burhan represents two generations of Blue Diamond breeding as the first living foal out of Jousi. By Dubawi and out of Listed winner Soon, Jousi carried our colours to victory in a maiden at Ascot as a two-year-old.

It's a classy family going back, with granddam Soon a Listed-winning Galileo half-sister to Derby runner-up Walk In The Park, now a leading jumps sire. Third dam Classic Park was Aidan O'Brien's first Classic winner when successful in the 1997 Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Jousi has a filly foal by Blame and is in foal to Twirling Candy.

Burhan is pictured with Imad Alsagar shortly after birth in the spring of 2022.
