Special Decorated Knight filly for Queen Sarra

1 March 2020

Blue Diamond Stud has welcomed a special Leap Year arrival in a cracking daughter of Decorated Knight out of Queen Sarra.

The filly is the third foal out of Queen Sarra, another bred at Blue Diamond Stud. The mare’s second foal is multiple winner Hector Loza, a son of Kodiac bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar who ran fourth in last year’s Group 3 Solari Stakes at Sandown.

By Shamardal, Queen Sarra is the sole foal out of the high-class racemare Grace O’Malley, whose three wins included two renewals of the Group 3 Noblesse Stakes at Cork. The daughter of Refuse To Bend, who was bought by Tony Nerses to join the stud, was also placed in the Group 3 Blue Wind and Listed Vintage Crop Stakes.

Further back, it is the good Percy’s Lass family also responsible for Derby hero Sir Percy.

Queen Sarra’s first foal was the well regarded filly Nooshin, who visits El Kabeir this season.

Blue Diamond Stud will again be strongly supporting our multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight in his third season at the Irish National Stud, where he stands for €9,000.

Fresh off an impressive showing at the winter breeding stock sales, where his first foals averaged close to €65,000, he was recently described in the Racing Post as a ‘STAR VALUE’ sire for 2020.

“It hardly seems believable that a three-time winning Group 1 son of Galileo from an exceptional family could qualify to be included in this list, but, at a generous-looking €9,000, that is precisely where the Irish National Stud’s Decorated Knight finds himself,” wrote James Thomas.

“The now eight-year-old won the Jebel Hatta, Tattersalls Gold Cup and Irish Champion Stakes, in which he beat no less a rival than Poet’s Word, before taking up stud duties, when his owners announced they would be lending their colour bearer support both in terms of mares and in the sale ring.

“They have made good on their word in a big way, not only sending Decorated Knight a host of blue-chip mares, but signing for a number of foals at public auction, purchases that contributed to a healthy foal average of 58,715gns. However, it was Jamie Railton who went to 190,000gns for Decorated Knight’s most expensive offspring, a colt out of Princess Noor.

“As if that weren’t enough, Decorated Knight – who is out of Pearling, a sister to Giant’s Causeway – has also let down into a stunning-looking physical model. The sum total of those attributes makes his fee look very appealing indeed.”
