Sparkling debut for BDS-bred Milford
29 May 2024
Milford, bred and raised at Blue Diamond Stud, made a sparkling debut for The Milford Partnership and Karl Burke at Hamilton on Wednesday when landing the 5f maiden in impressive style.
Sent off a short favourite, Milford showed enough pace to bag the near rail and was always in control, ultimately quickening clear for a wide-margin success.
"He's a lovely horse who had been working very well," said jockey Clifford Lee. "We're delighted. It's good he's translated that homework on to the track. He's a lovely looking horse, a great mover and he was very professional - jumped out of the gates lovely, travelled very well and got the job done. He could be a nice horse."
Bred on the highly successful Kodiac- Shamardal cross, Milford is the first living foal out of Penlight, a half-sister to Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso. Another half-sister, Fiorentina, is the dam of Australian Group 1 winner Silent Sedition.
Penlight has a yearling filly by Saxon Warrior and a filly foal by Nathaniel. She is back in foal to Cracksman.
