Shaden defies top weight to beat the colts at Ffos Las

30 July 2015

Shaden bounced back from defeat at Royal Ascot on Thursday to take the nursery at Ffos Las for Lady Cecil and make it two wins from three starts.

Shaden lined up in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot off the back of a debut success at Nottingham but had to be heavily eased by Hayley Turner after suffering bad interference shortly after the start. It later transpired that she had ripped off her near fore shoe.

Burdened with top weight of 9-7 on Thursday, Shaden showed no ill effects from that bad experience, always travelling well under Hayley Turner before quickening clear to beat the colt Sahreej with ears pricked by 1 3/4 lengths.

By leading two-year-old sire Kodiac, Shaden was bred by John Fagan’s Deerpark Stud out of the Listed-placed Lady Avenger, by Namid. She is a half-sister to a winner and from the further family of top miler Lahib.

Shaden was a 40,000gns purchase by Tony Nerses out of the Deerpark Stud draft at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
