It continues to be a busy time for the stud with the arrival of several exciting foals.

Broodmare manager Andrew Rawlin and his team have welcomed four new foals in the past three weeks, among them a striking Sea The Stars colt out of Floret born on February 23.

As Floret is a daughter of Galileo, the colt possesses an interesting background being inbred to blue hen Urban Sea. As it is, he is exceptionally well-bred since Floret is a half-sister to champion Moonlight Cloud, whose 12 victories included the Group 1 Prix de la Foret, Group 1 Prix du Moulin, Group 1 Prix Fresnay le Buffard Jacques Le Marois, three renewals of the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and two renewals of the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot.

In addition, Floret‘s second dam, Wedding Bouquet is a Group 3 winner and a half-sister to the Classic winners Generous and Imagine, in turn the dam of Group 1 winners Horatio Nelson and Van Gogh. It is the excellent Doff The Derby family originally cultivated so effectively by Barronstown Stud.

Floret, who also has a yearling colt by Kingman, now visits Palace Pier. The resulting foal will be bred on similar Invincible Spirit lines to Moonlight Cloud.

Several days earlier, the stud had welcomed a daughter of leading young sire Mehmas. An eye-catching filly, she is out of the winning Spring Eternal, an Oasis Dream daughter of multiple stakes winner Short Dance from a deep Juddmonte family.

She is the third foal out of Spring Eternal, who has colts by Belardo and Decorated Knight to run for her. Spring Eternal visits Cracksman this year.

Lope De Vega is the sire of a smart colt out of Lady Wingshot. The Group 3-winning Lady Wingshot, a three-time stakes winner in total, has been part of our broodmare band for several years now and is the dam of three winners including Lady Fantasia, a daughter of Decorated Knight who recently struck at Chantilly.

Lady Wingshot also has a two-year-old filly by Mastercraftsman to run for her this season and visits Dark Angel.

The final foal for February arrived courtesy of a strong colt by top 2yo sire Kodiac. Born on 28 February, he is out of Penlight and bred on the same Kodiac – Shamardal cross as four of Kodiac’s stakes winners – Hello Youmzain, Gifted Master, Umm Kulthum, and Island Of Love.

Penlight brings her own deep family to the mix being a half-sister to Dubai World Cup hero Monterosso, now at stud in Japan, and Fiorentina, dam of top Australian runner Silent Sedition.

Penlight, who has a yearling colt by Decorated Knight, returns to Kodiac.
