Orvar runs out easy debut winner at Salisbury

Orvar set himself up for a potential crack at Royal Ascot on Saturday when the easy winner of his debut for Richard Hannon at Salisbury.
The son of Dandy Man tracked the leaders in the 5f event before taking it up a furlong out and going clear to score by two-and-a-half lengths without Pat Dobbs ever having to resort to the whip.
“Orvar was a bit green early,” commented jockey Pat Dobbs, “and took it up a bit soon, but he’s a nice horse with a good attitude.”
Bred by David Harrison, Orvar was a £60,000 yearling purchase by Tony Nerses at last year’s DBS Premier Sale. He becomes the fourth winner out of Roskeen, a Grand Lodge half-sister to the Listed-placed Roker Park and winning Cooden Beach, herself dam of Gimcrack Stakes winner and sire Shaweel. Further back, it is the family of champion Golden Opinion.
His victory concluded a very good day for Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar following the earlier victory of Ayrad in the Listed Tapster Stakes at Goodwood.
The Goodwood card also featured a taking maiden victory from two-year-old Bournemouth Belle – the daughter of Canford Cliffs is the first foal out of Blue Diamond Stud’s Ellbeedee.
