Nashwa jumps into the Oaks reckoning with imperious display

Nashwa jumped into the Oaks reckoning with a scintillating victory at Haydock on Saturday.
Our homebred daughter of Frankel has long been well regarded within the John and Thady Gosden yard and went into many notebooks last November when a staying on third on her debut at Newmarket.
A robust filly with more than a touch of class, Nashwa has done incredibly well over the winter. As anticipated, she was more switched on at Haydock on Saturday and having been backed into favouritism, turned in an imperious display; settled just behind the leaders by Hollie Doyle, she was angled into the clear three furlongs out and having cruised up to the leader, quickened clear for an easy wide-margin success. Although eased down by Hollie approaching the line, she still won by six-and-a-half lengths.
The target is very much the Oaks, for which she was cut into 10/1, and so Nashwa is likely to be seen next in one of the trials.
“It was Nashwa’s first run of the season and she was fresh early, but Hollie [Doyle] got some cover and once she pulled her out and asked her, she quickened up nicely,” said Thady Gosden. “She’s owned and bred by Imad Al Sagar and the Oaks is every owner’s target, so we’ll go for a trial now and see how we go from there.
“This filly showed plenty of speed over a mile on ground that was quicker than ideal, so we’ll find a trial somewhere, maybe Chester but we’ll see.”
Nashwa was bred at the stud out of Princess Loulou, a daughter of Pivotal who won the Listed Gillies Stakes at Doncaster in our colours. Highly talented on her day, she also ran second in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.
Nashwa is the third foal out of Princess Loulou and follows the classy Louganini as a winner in Imad Al Sagar’s colours.
Princess Loulou, who hails from the famous Wigan/Pelting family of Braashee, Hadeer and Awzaan, also has a yearling filly by our multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight and a colt foal by Dubawi. She returned to Frankel this year.
