Naas winner Luke Short another 2yo hit for Blue Diamond

18 September 2019

Luke Short, bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad al Sagar, gained a deserved success in the nursery at Naas on Wednesday to become the latest two-year-old winner of 2019 to hail from Blue Diamond Stud.

Trained by Noel Meade, Luke Short had fared creditably in three previous maiden starts and put that experience to good use on Wednesday, coming with a strong run to land the competitive 20-runner event from Shines Her Light. The pair pulled well clear of the third, Lampetia.

“Luke Short always shown us a lot at home but even today walking around before the race you’d know looking at him that he’s still just a shell,” Noel Meade told reporters following the race. “He ran well before except at the Curragh where he hated the ground. I’d say he wants real fast ground. He’s the most beautiful mover you ever saw.”

Making Luke Short’s win all the more notable is the fact he is a son of our stallion Sayif, winner of the Group 2 Diomed Stakes at Ascot. Sayif is also the sire of the recent impressive BDS-bred debut winner Ikigai.

Luke Short was bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar out of Acclamare, an Acclamation half-sister to Listed winner Bold Thady Quill and the Listed-placed Willytheconqueror. She descends directly from champion Sookera and therefore hails from the further family of blue hen Hasili.
