Mezajy breaks maiden
24 April 2015
Ed Walker provided Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar with their second winner in as many days on Wednesday when sending out Mezajy to break his maiden at Epsom.
His victory came hot on the heels of Ghalib’s impressive success at Kempton on Tuesday.
Mezajy was always travelling comfortably for William Buick and after taking it up over two furlongs out, always had enough in reserve to repel the runner-up Mile High. The pair pulled four-and-a-half lengths clear of the third.
“Mezajy did well as he was three wide the whole way and there was not much pace,” Buick told the Racing Post. “He’ll get further and has a great attitude.”
Bred by Ballylinch Stud, Mezajy was a 230,000gns purchase out of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale by Tony Nerses. He becomes the fifth European winner this year for Makfi and is the first foal out his dam Maidin Maith, a winning Montjeu three-parts sister to Listed winner Modeeroch.
