May Rose off the mark in cosy style
8 August 2016
May Rose continued our good run on Monday when the cosy winner of 5f maiden at Windsor.
The daughter of Lawman was sent off favourite off the back of a promising placed debut for Charlie Hills last month and didn’t disappoint backers, always travelling before asserting under hands and heels from Andrea Atzeni to score in smart style.
“She’s a very straightforward filly,” Andrea Atzeni told At The Races. “She’ll probably get 6f again – she travelled a little bit too well last time [when second at Leicester]. So they dropped her back to 5f. She settled well and won cosy in the end. She’s alright. It’s nice to win a maiden with this sort of filly.”
May Rose boasts an excellent pedigree as a three-parts sister to last year’s Challenge Stakes winner Cable Bay, now a popular stallion at Highclere Stud. Their dam, Rose De France, is a Diktat half-sister to the Classic-placed Bowman as well as the dam of champions Mastery and Kirklees.
She also descends from the noted matriarch Mesopotamia, ancestress of Halling, Rip Van Winkle, Mukhadram and African Story among others.
May Rose was purchased as a yearling by Tony Nerses at the Goffs Orby Sale.
