Martin Dwyer appointed as retained jockey to Imad Al Sagar

20 June 2021

Imad Al Sagar of Blue Diamond Stud is delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Dwyer as his second retained jockey.

The appointment of the Classic-winning Dwyer follows that of Hollie Doyle as primary jockey to Imad Al Sagar last summer.

“We are delighted to add Martin Dwyer to our team,” said Imad Al Sagar. “I look forward to working with him and envisage a fruitful partnership.

“Hollie Doyle remains our first jockey. However, the addition of such an experienced and Classic-winning rider such as Martin Dwyer gives us another dimension and adds further support to our team.

Dwyer, whose big-race wins include the Derby on Sir Percy, Oaks on Casual Look and this year’s Coronation Cup on Pyledriver, said: “I am looking forward to riding for Imad Al Sagar and excited to be part of a good team.

“Imad Al Sagar is breeding and racing some lovely horses and it’s exciting to be riding for an owner-breeder at that level – as a jockey, that’s what you strive to do.”

Al Sagar has enjoyed a long and successful association with the sport, notably as the co-owner of Group 1 winners such as Decorated Knight, Authorized and Araafa.

Only last week, there was further big-race success at Royal Ascot courtesy of the homebred Amtiyaz, who was partnered by Hollie Doyle to victory in the Copper Horse Stakes.

Other major highlights include Authorized, whose championship career included a win in the 2007 Derby, Araafa, winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas, and homebred Decorated Knight, winner of the Irish Champion Stakes, Tattersalls Gold Cup and Jebel Hatta.

Last season was a particularly successful one for the operation, with Extra Elusive winning both the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster and Winter Hill Stakes and Majestic Noor landing the Listed John Musker Stakes. Both were ridden by Hollie Doyle.

Blue Diamond Stud, based near Newmarket, is home to 38 mares including Pearling, the dam of Decorated Knight, Nouriya, dam of Royal Ascot Group 2 winner Aljazzi, and Nessina, dam of the Gimcrack Stakes winner Ajaya and Extra Elusive.

Blue Diamond Stud also stands Decorated Knight at the Irish National Stud.
