Liverpool Knight breaks through to enhance family record

13 February 2021

Liverpool Knight put it all together at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening to record a deserved win and add to the successful record of his family.

Making his third start in the 1m4f novice, the John Gosden-trained colt strode clear for a resounding success to become the fourth winner for his dam, dual Listed winner Nouriya.

“He’s been steadily progressing,” jockey Robert Havlin told Sky Sports Racing. “The trip helped him today and he found plenty up the straight. The boss has given him plenty of time, there’s a bit more improvement in him and he’s done it nicely.”

Liverpool Knight represents two generations of Blue Diamond breeding as a son of Nouriya, who carried our colours to victory in the Listed John Musker and Lyric Stakes. In turn, Nouriya has excelled herself at stud as the dam of Aljazzi, winner of the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown, and Majestic Noor, who emulated her dam by taking the Listed John Musker Stakes at Yarmouth last year.

Majestic Noor, who is also trained by John Gosden, remains in training for 2021. Gosden also has charge of Nouriya’s two-year-old colt by Decorated Knight.

Nouriya is out of our foundation mare Majestic Sakeena, a purchase by Tony Nerses. While Nouriya is the best of her five winners, the King’s Best mare also foaled the Listed-placed Yuften, who was second past the post in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat (but disqualified), and Lady Nouf.

Nouriya is booked back to Lope De Vega for 2021.

Overall, the family remains a strong part of Blue Diamond Stud; other members include Majestic Sakeena’s Galileo daughter Nadia Promise, who recently foaled a lovely colt by Study Of Man, and Nouriya’s Australia daughter Cristielle, who has a yearling colt by U S Navy Flag.
