Decorated Knight: sire of another promising first-crop winner

Knightswood continued a good week for Decorated Knight on Monday when running out the emphatic five-length winner of his maiden at Redcar.

Trained by Mark and Charlie Johnston, Knightswood was making only his second start following a promising third at Kempton Park, and despite stumbling at the start, was never challenged to stride clear for a five-length success.

The Racing Post was impressed, commenting: “Knightswood justified good support up in trip five months on from his positive debut, controlling things from the front and gradually drawing the sting out of his rivals in the straight. He looks a strong galloper who should progress throughout this season, and 1m4f should be well within his range.”

Knightswood becomes yet another first-crop winner for Decorated Knight, who was represented only on Saturday by the Danish 2,000 Guineas winner Charming Knight.

The colt was bred by the Irish National Stud Mares Syndicate out of the Listed-placed Rock Of Gibraltar mare Neuquen, previously the dam of four winners who hails from the family of Arc heroine Solemia.

Multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight stands at the Irish National Stud.
