Kitten's Joy filly among exciting new arrivals
20 April 2022
There was much cause for celebration on Saturday 9 April due to the arrival of three filly foals in Ireland – a Kitten’s Joy filly out of Manasarova, a Night Of Thunder filly out of Lady Rasha and an Almanzor filly out of New Jazz.
We are delighted to have a filly by one of America’s premier sires in Kitten’s Joy. Not only that, the youngster is also a half-sister to exciting French three-year-old Sicilian Defense, a narrow second in the Listed Prix Montenica at Chantilly on her recent return to action. Manasarova herself was a smart filly who was second in the Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit and hails from the further family of top American turf runner Shakis.
A daughter of More Than Ready, Manasarova also has a two-year-old colt by Roaring Lion who is on the cusp of joining Andrew Balding and a yearling filly by Zoustar.
Manasarova now visits Blue Point.
As for the Night Of Thunder filly out of Lady Rasha, she is a member of one of our most successful families as a granddaughter of Nessina, dam of our Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner Ajaya and multiple Group 3 scorer Extra Elusive. Further back, it is the excellent Juddmonte family of Cityscape, Bated Breath and Logician.
Lady Rasha also has a two-year-old filly by Decorated Knight and a yearling colt by Saxon Warrior. The Dansili mare now visits Mehmas.
Promising young French sire Almanzor is the sire of a smart filly out of our Scat Daddy mare New Jazz. The chestnut follows a Harry Angel filly as the second foal out of her winning dam, who is closely related to Group 1 performer Traffic Guard.
New Jazz now visits our own multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight.
Just several days later, another filly was added to the fold in a beautiful daughter of Wootton Bassett. Foaled in Ireland on April 11, she is out of Star Of Bristol, a Speightstown half-sister to Classic-winning miler and successful sire Mastercraftsman. It is also the immediate family of last season’s Lingfield Oaks Trial heroine Sherbet Lemon.
Star Of Bristol’s two-year-old by Lope De Vega, Clifton Down, is now owned by Juddmonte Farms and in training with Francis-Henri Graffard. She also has a yearling colt by Decorated Knight and visits Saxon Warrior this year.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Azenzar’s colt by Too Darn Hot on March 31 brought the curtain down on a successful foaling season for Andrew Rawlin and his team at Blue Diamond Stud.
The colt could be on the verge of receiving a significant pedigree update since his half-brother, debut winner Rizg, is held in high regard by Roger Varian. He is one of three winners out of Azenzar, a fellow homebred who boasts champion Alexander Goldrun among her many high-class relations.
Azenzar also has a yearling colt by US Navy Flag. The daughter of Danehill Dancer now returns to No Nay Never, the sire of Rizg.
