Hotazhell continues brilliant run for BDS-bred 2yos with Tyros success
25 July 2024
Hotazhell, bred, raised and sold by Blue Diamond Stud, proved he was a colt out of the top drawer on Thursday with an authoritative success in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown.
In the process, he continued a brilliant run for the current Blue Diamond-bred 2yo crop following the earlier successes of Sashay Away (on debut at Ellis Park on Sunday), Hackney Diamonds (winner of a nursery at Leicester last week) and Milford (a debut winner at Hamilton Park).
Trained by Jessica Harrington, Hotazhell was making his step into Pattern company following an impressive maiden win at the Curragh. Sent off 100/30 under Shane Foley, he was always prominent and having run down the leader Swagman, pulled clear for a length and a half score.
“That was nice, he's a nice colt,” said Jessica Harrington. “He quickened up well, they went a good old gallop the whole way. He's tough and he'll probably just have one more run this year.
“He had to do it the hard way because he had to go and catch the pacemaker and then go away from him.
“Shane was thinking the other horse would come to him and take him along but it didn't and he had to go and commit. He'll go a mile, probably even this year.”
Hotazhell was sold through our Tattersalls October Book 2 draft for 70,000gns to Eddie Linehan, who resold him for 200,000gns to current connections at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.
From the second crop of Too Darn Hot, he is out of Azenzar, who carried our colours to victory in minor company, and a half-brother to our classy sprinter Rizg. He has a yearling half-brother by No Nay Never.
