Homebred Louganini impressive at Ascot

It’s onwards and upwards for Louganini, who once again proved he was a horse on the up for Roger Charlton with a smooth victory in the 1m4f handicap at Ascot on Saturday.
Back on his favoured easier ground, Louganini set off in pursuit of the wide-margin leader Group One Power heading out of the home turn and after having passed him with ease, won with ears pricked under Hollie Doyle by three-and-a-quarter lengths.
A progressive yet lightly raced gelding, hopefully Louganini will be back at Ascot next month for the Royal meeting.
Louganini was winning for the third time in seven starts having previously scored on his two-year-old debut at Newmarket and then again at Haydock Park last year. He has finished out of the frame only once when finding the ground too lively at Pontefract on his seasonal return this year.
The son of Zoffany is the first foal out of Princess Loulou, a yearling purchase by Tony Nerses who carried the colours of Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar to victory in the 2015 Listed Gillies Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster. The daughter of Pivotal was also second in the 2014 Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet.
Princess Loulou also has a two-year-old filly named Nashwa in training with John Gosden and foaled a striking filly by our multiple Group 1-winning homebred Decorated Knight this year. She visits Dubawi.
