Homebred Louganini brave in victory at Haydock

It was great to see homebred Louganini back to winning ways at Haydock Park on Saturday for Roger Charlton.
The son of Zoffany had shown he possessed plenty of ability when making a winning debut at Newmarket last autumn, which was further underlined at Haydock on Saturday as he knuckled down to deny It’s Good To Laugh in the concluding 1m2f handicap.
Held up by Jason Watson, Louganini had to be pulled wide for his run, by which time It’s Good To Laugh had stolen a clear lead. However, Louganini showed a fine attitude to run down the leader and win on the line.
Louganini is the first foal out of our high-class mare Princess Loulou, who was trained by Roger Varian to win the Listed Gillies Fillies Stakes and run second in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet. She was also third in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Stakes.
A daughter of the outstanding broodmare sire Pivotal, Princess Loulou is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Easy Target and out of a half-sister to the classy sprinter Watching.
This is the further family of Awzaan and Telescope and goes back to Dare Wigan’s wonderful mare Pelting.
Princess Loulou also has a two-year-old colt by Invincible Spirit named Natural Monopoly who is with Chad Brown and a yearling filly by Frankel. She visited our multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight in 2020.

On what was a productive day for Blue Diamond Stud, fellow homebred Breath Of Joy also ran a good second in the 7f handicap at Chelmsford City. The Amy Murphy-trained daughter of Kodiac is out of Island Dreams, a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to high-class miler Rob Roy.
