Homebred Decorated Knight impressive at Sandown
30 July 2015
The highly regarded Decorated Knight continued his progression through the ranks with ease on Wednesday with victory in the 0-90 mile handicap at Sandown.
Sent off the 5/4 favourite under Andrea Atzeni, Decorated Knight showed a bright turn of foot to swoop from the back of the field and run down the leader Pyjama Party, who had poached a healthy lead. In the end, Decorated Knight won a shady cosily by 3/4 lengths while the pair pulled no less than eight lengths clear of the third.
“They are two nice horses, and I´m delighted with the way Decorated Knight made all that ground up the Sandown hill to beat a leader who wasn´t stopping,” trainer Roger Varian told the Racing Post. “He has been very babyish, but he´s going the right way. He´s beautifully bred, out of a full sister to Giant´s Causeway, and I´d like to think he´ll be running in decent company next year.”
Decorated Knight is indeed beautifully bred; by Galileo, he is the first foal out of Pearling, a sister to Giant’s Causeway as well as You’resothrilling, the dam of Gleneagles and Marvellous, both of whom are also by Galileo.
Pearling, purchased for 1.3 million guineas at the 2011 Tattersalls December Sale, has a two-year-old Dubawi colt named Azizaan, also with Roger Varian, a yearling filly by Frankel and a colt foal by Dansili. The daughter of Storm Cat is back in foal to Galileo.
