The highly regarded Gulliver made light of a lengthy layoff on Saturday to break his maiden in good fashion at York.
By our own stallion Sayif, Gulliver made a bright start to his career in the spring for Hugo Palmer when placed behind the classy Global Applause at Newmarket and Admiralty Arch at York. The colt suffered a setback following those starts, which necessitated a spell at Blue Diamond Stud, but he showed no signs of rustiness on Saturday as alertly out of the stalls under James Doyle, he led two furlongs out and went on to score by a length with something in hand from Dubai Horizon.
In the process, he landed his connections a £25,000 Tattersalls Book 1 bonus.
“Gulliver had a bit of a setback and needed a bit of time to grow up,” George Boughey, Hugo Palmer’s representative told the Racing Post. “We put blinkers on and they sharpened him up, though James said he was still looking around.”
Incidentally, his win came just five minutes following the popular victory of his half-sister Sweet Selection in the Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket.
The pair were bred by Alun Douch out of the winning Sweet Coincidence, a Mujahid mare who initially struck notoriety as the 1,000 Guineas runner-up Lightning Thunder.
Gulliver was purchased by Tony Nerses for 50,000gns from Douch at last year’s Tattersalls October Sale.
He is yet another winner for Sayif, who stands at Llety Farms.
