Group 1 targets beckon for Hotazhell following Beresford success

28 September 2024

Hotazhell, bred, raised and sold by Blue Diamond Stud, further consolidated his claims to being one of the best 2yo colts trained in Ireland on Saturday when the authoritative winner of the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

Previously winner of the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown, the Jessica Harrington-trained colt wore down Tennessee Stud to win going away by just under a length.

“He’s very good," said Jessica Harrington of the Silverton Hill LLC-owned colt. "We’re delighted with him.

“He travels and then he comes off it. When he came back on it again, he was always going to tough it out.

“He’s a good horse. He’ll probably go for the Futurity at Doncaster, he gets the mile really well, so we might as well go there.

“He’s by Too Darn Hot but he gets the mile well, he stays every yard of that.

“I’m delighted for Bonnie and Tommy Hamilton, who own him. They had Pathfork with me as well.”

Hotazhell was sold through our Tattersalls October Book 2 draft for 70,000gns to Eddie Linehan, who resold him for 200,000gns to current connections at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.

From the second crop of Too Darn Hot, he is out of Azenzar, who carried our colours to victory in minor company, and a half-brother to our classy sprinter Rizg. He has a yearling half-brother by No Nay Never destined for Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale.

Hotazhell continues the great run enjoyed by Blue Diamond Stud's 2yo crop. Of the stud's runners, 86% have won - in addition to Hotazhell, they include Deauville scorer Burhan (Group 1-entered), debut Ellis Park winner Sashay Away, fellow debut winner Milford and the nursery winners River Blackwater and Hackney Diamonds.
