Green Fortune is another winner for Sayif

Homebred Green Fortune made it two out of three at Chelmsford on Tuesday with a gutsy win in the novice race in a performance that promised plenty for the future.

The William Haggas-trained colt, by our own stallion SAYIF, won well first time out at Lingfield and wasn’t disgraced on his next start when third at Haydock. On Tuesday at Chelmsford, he was alert away from the stalls under Pat Cosgrave and had to show a brave attitude to squeeze through horses and win going away from another classy two-year-old in Amazing Alice – like Green Fortune, dual winner Amazing Alice is from the second crop of Sayif, who stands at Llety Farms.

“The race looked okay on paper,” Maureen Haggas told At The Races. “He’s a real baby still and doesn’t really concentrate. He won first time – he was very good that day. And tonight he was good. He’s done quite well to win.”

Green Fortune pictured as a foal with Shyrl

Green Fortune is the third living foal out of our Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Shyrl, an Acclamation granddaughter of Group 3 Prix de Flore heroine Benicia. Shyrl was purchased by Tony Nerses for 70,000gns from Bansha House Stables at the 2008 Tattersalls Craven Sale and has consistently justified that investment, not only as a Royal Ascot two-year-old but as the dam of Raucous; her second living foal, Raucous was third behind our homebred Ajaya in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, has been multiple Group-placed since and recently broke the 6 furlong track record at Chelmsford in victory.

Shyrl has a yearling sister to Raucous, by Dream Ahead, and a filly foal by Kingman. She has been covered this season by Ajaya.

Blue Diamond Stud is also home to Shyrl’s daughter Bahie, by Authorized. Bahie has a yearling colt by Sayif – a three-quarter brother to Green Fortune – and visited War Command this season.
