Foal purchase Masekela makes bright winning debut

Masekela, a foal purchase by Blue Diamond Stud, made the perfect start to his career on Friday when the smart debut winner of the 6f maiden at Goodwood.
Sent off at 9/2 for Andrew Balding, the son of El Kabeir was always travelling well and after taking it up a furlong out, showed a fine attitude to repel Golden War to win by a length-and-a-quarter.
The Racing Post were complimentary of the performance, noting: “Quite popular in the market, he was a little keen but still saw his race out well, and that was without his rider having to go for everything. He’s a bright prospect.”
Masekela was bred by Coolawn Stud out of the Group 3-winning Lady’s Purse, by Doyen. He was purchased by Blue Diamond Stud out of the Goffs November Foal Sale and resold to Andrew Balding through New England Stud at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
