Fine performance by Patentar in Charlie Whittingham Stakes
30 May 2016
Patentar turned in a great effort for Simon Callaghan on Sunday to run second in the Grade 2 Charlie Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita.
Previously successful in an allowance race at Santa Anita, Patentar saved ground early under Alonso Quinonez before making good late headway to take second behind Si Sage.
Bought by Tony Nerses as a yearling from breeder Whatton Manor Stud, Patentar was initially trained by Marco Botti for whom he won a conditions race at Lingfield and his juvenile debut at York. The son of Teofilo also ran fourth to Toormore in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket.
Patentar was bred by Peter Player out of Poppets Sweetlove, a winning Foxhound half-sister to the Budapest bullet Overdose.
