Exciting quartet of Sayif colts catalogued to DBS Premier
28 July 2015
The first yearlings by high-class sprinter SAYIF are set to make their auction debuts at the DBS Premier Sale at Doncaster next month.
Four colts will be on offer over the two days, among them three bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar. The exception in the quartet is Brendan Holland’s relation to high-class miler Green Line Express. He is the first foal out of Cherrego (205), a half-sister to Listed winner Wonderful Days.
Houghton Bloodstock will offer two by the stallion on behalf of Blue Diamond Stud: a colt out of Native Picture (438) and a colt out of Pearl Magic (458).
Both are bred to be fast: Native Picture is a winning Kodiac half-sister to Nunthorpe Stakes winner Kingsgate Native while Pearl Magic is a Speightstown half-sister to Group 3 winner Tough Speed.
Also bred to be fast is the Sayif colt out of Elvira’s Delight (232), who is a winning half-sister to two-time King’s Stand Stakes winner Equiano, now a successful young sire. Elvira’s Delight is also a half-sister to Evita Peron, winner of the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot since the publication of the catalogue. He will be sold by Voute Stales.
Sayif was a high-class two-year-old and sprinter who was placed four times at Group level as a two-year-old, notably when second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and Group 2 July Stakes, both at Newmarket. He trained on to win the Group 2 Diadem Stakes at Ascot by 2 1/2 lengths as a three-year-old, in which he beat a field of top older sprinters.
“Sayif was a high-class colt, as he proved when the easy winner of the Diadem Stakes,” said Tony Nerses. “He was also consistently among the best as a two-year-old.
“We have 12 Sayif yearlings of our own and there’s no doubt that Sayif – himself a typical representative of the Green Desert line – is passing on his strength and balance. He is throwing stock in his precocious mould, so we look forward to the first Sayifs running next year.”
A member of the increasingly powerful Green Desert sire line, Sayif was well supported in his first season by Blue Diamond Stud, who sent him the half-sisters to Group 1 performers such as Crowded House, Equiano, Kingsgate Native and Rob Roy.
Sayif’s first crop also includes a half-brother to 1,000 Guineas runner-up Lightning Thunder and half-sister to the Grade 1-placed Queen Of The Sand.
