Deserved success for Shamran
30 August 2024
Homebred Shamran gained a deserved success at Salisbury for Harry Charlton on Friday evening when successful in the mile novice.
The son of Kingman had filled the frame in each of his starts prior to starting on Friday and took another step forward under Hollie Doyle to register a two-and-a-quarter length victory over Monsieur Fudge.
"He got a lovely tow into the race and he knuckled down nicely," said Hollie Doyle. "He's improved with each run and he knew his job when it mattered. He's hit the line hard enough and hopefully there's more to come.
"I think he's quite versatile - his Windsor form was franked earlier by the winner winning again at Sandown so he's been running in some quite nice maidens. So you can't knock him. He's very relaxed with a good mind so he could get further but at this moment in time, he probably doesn't need to."
Shamran is the first foal out of Floret, a Galileo half-sister to the champion and multiple Group 1 winner Moonlight Cloud from the Doff The Derby family of Generous and Imagine. He is followed by a two-year-old colt by Sea The Stars who is in training in Australia with Lindsey Smith.
Floret's yearling filly by Palace Pier is catalogued to sell during Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale. Now based at Stonereath Farm in Kentucky, she also has a filly foal by Blame and is in foal to Justify.
Shamran becomes the second homebred winner for Imad Alsagar in a week following Enchanting's success at Goodwood last Saturday.
