Princess Loulou gains a deserved stakes success
Princess Loulou gained a deserved first success at stakes level for Roger Varian on Saturday when the easy winner of the Listed Gillies Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster, a race in which she ran second last year.
Partnered by Joe Fanning, Princess Loulou poached a five-length lead two furlongs out, after which she was never going to be caught. At the line, she had a length-and-a-half to spare over Latenightrequest.
A consistent filly granted the right conditions, Princess Loulou gained a valuable Group 1 bracket last year when second to Ribbons in the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville. She was also second in the Listed Conqueror Stakes and third in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Stakes.
“I am thrilled for the owners because they are great owner-breeders and the one reason we kept Princess Loulou in training as a five-year-old was to win a stakes with her,” Roger Varian told the Racing Post. “We couldn´t have left it any later.”
The daughter of Pivotal was bred by David Brown out of the placed Highest Honor mare Aiming, a half-sister to Listed-winning sprinter Watching from the famous Pelting family. Aiming has also bred four other winners including the Listed-placed Easy Target.
Princess Loulou was purchased for 310,000gns by Tony Nerses out of the Furnace Mill Stud draft at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
