Decorated Knight to run in G1 Irish Champion Stakes
6 September 2017
Decorated Knight will be on his travels again later this week when he heads to Ireland to contest the Group 1 QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
Our homebred son of Galileo is already proven around Leopardstown having run out the impressive winner of last year’s Group 3 Meld Stakes. Since then he has captured two Group 1 races for Roger Charlton; the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, which was won easily from Somehow and Deauville, and the Jebel Hatta at Meydan, in which he showed a fine turn of foot to get out of trouble and run down Folkswood.
He also ran a brilliant race when second to Highland Reel in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He was last seen running fifth behind Ulysses in the Juddmonte International. However, he didn’t enjoy the rain softened ground that day and came out of the race sore.
“Things didn’t go to plan in the Juddmonte International while he was also unlucky in the Eclipse Stakes when hampered early on,” said Tony Nerses, advisor to Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar. “However, he remains in good form.
“He also seems to enjoy travelling and is already proven around Leopardstown. He’s a tough horse who always tries, so we go there in hope.”
Decorated Knight is the first foal out of Pearling, a Storm Cat sister to champion Giant’s Causeway, subsequently a multiple champion sire for Coolmore in America, and the Group 2-placed Freud, himself a leading sire in New York.
Another sibling, Cherry Hinton Stakes winner You’resothrilling, is the dam of top miler and Coolmore sire Gleneagles, Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Marvellous and the Group 3-winning juveniles Coolmore and Happily.
Pearling is also a sister to stakes-producing sires Tumblebrutus and Roar Of The Tiger. She is out of Grade 2 winner Mariah’s Storm.
Decorated Knight has won 7 races and almost £700,000 in prize-money.
