Cracking performance by Yuften to run second in Prix Jean Prat
14 July 2014
Stud homebred Yuften proved without doubt that he belongs in Group 1 company with a cracking performance to run second behind Charm Spirit in the Prix Jean Prat. However, although he passed the post only a neck behind the winner, Yuften was later demoted to fourth after hampering the third home, La Hoguette, when drifting towards the rail in the final furlong.
Even so, Yuften’s performance – which saw him finish in front of Classic performers Style Vendome, Muwaary and Shifting Power – has opened up a host of top level opportunities for the colt. A rapid improver, he had previously stepped up from a maiden win to run fifth in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“He will be better on better ground but he seemed to handle it,” said Maureen Haggas. “He is still a big baby which is what all that was about but I think he handled it.”
Yuften is the sixth foal out of the King’s Best mare Majestic Sakeena (pictured right) and a half-brother to dual Listed winner Nouriya as well as the Listed-placed Lady Nouf.
Majestic Sakeena, a 200,000gns purchase by Tony Nerses in 2006, has a filly foal by Galileo and visited Frankel in 2014.
