‘Clearly he’s stakes class’ impressive return for Decorated Knight 3yo
14 April 2022
The exciting Knightlaila made the perfect return to action on Wednesday when scoring in a competitive handicap at Gowran Park to become the latest winner for Decorated Knight.
The 3yo, bred by Blue Diamond Stud out of Miss Laila, is the second winner of the week for Decorated Knight after Decorated Guest, successful at Dundalk on Friday.
Running for the first time in colours of OTI Racing and under the care of Johnny Murtagh, Knightlaila made good headway from midfield to take up the running easily and win by a length with ears pricked.
The Racing Post were impressed, commenting: “Knightlaila came from a fairly unpromising position to make a winning handicap debut and clearly he’s stakes class or not far off. He ran two lovely races on the all-weather for his former trainer and he won with a bit in hand here. He should relish stepping up in distance and is a nice horse.”
Johnny Murtagh added: “Ben said he was very green when he hit the front and pricked his ears but he stayed on nicely. I thought he was a horse that would probably stay a mile and a half and he might, but he showed enough speed around there today. I don’t have him that long and he’s sure to improve.”
Knightlaila was bred by us here at Blue Diamond Stud out of the winning Dark Angel mare Miss Laila.
Decorated Guest joins SILVER BULLET LADY, LADY FANTASIA (a winner at Chantilly) and the exciting Classic entry KNIGHT OF HONOUR, who closed fast to finish third on his only start at Leicester last season, as exciting first-crop representatives by Decorated Knight.
Decorated Knight, a multiple Group 1 winner by Galileo out of Pearling, a full-sister to champion sire Giant’s Causeway, stands at the Irish National Stud. He is excellent value for the 2022 season at €7,500.
