Classy BDS-bred Raucous back to winning ways

26 September 2020

It was great to see Raucous, bred at Blue Diamond Stud by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, back to winning ways for Robert Cowell in the 6f conditions race at Chelmsford City on Saturday evening.

The former Listed winner sat in the slipstream of the favourite Shine So Bright and answered every call of jockey Alistair Rowlinson to wear down the leader and win a shade cosily.

“Our fella is very good at this level, he’s got gears,” Alistair Rowlinson told Racing TV. “I won my first Listed race on him the year before and he’s just so consistent, even at the age he is now.

“We jumped okay and got into a nice rhythm. We tried to keep it straightforward. We didn’t want to force the issue as didn’t think we would outstay Silvestre [de Sousa, riding Shine So Bright] but I thought once I get after him, he’ll find for me and he did.”

In victory, Raucous was scoring for the seventh time. By Dream Ahead, he is one of two stakes performers out of our Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Shyrl alongside the Group 3-placed Divine Spirit.
