Classic campaign beckons for Mangoustine, daughter of BDS mare Zotilla
26 October 2021
Mangoustine set the seal on a fantastic juvenile campaign on Tuesday with a smooth victory in the Group 3 Prix Miesque at Chantilly.
The daughter of Dark Angel is out of Blue Diamond Stud’s Zotilla, who joined the stud when purchased for €75,000 at Arqana in 2019.
Trained by Frederic Rossi, Mangoustine created a fine impression when successful on debut at Deauville in August and again last month when stepping up to take the Listed Criterium de Lyon at Lyon Parilly.
On Tuesday, she had them all off the bridle early into the home straight and answered every one of Maxime Guyon’s calls to win comprehensively by a length and a quarter.
“She is a great filly,” Rossi told JDG. “It’s been a while since I had one like this. This is my fourth Prix Miesque and Mangoustine is one of the best fillies I have had. She will probably make her comeback in the Prix Imprudence and I don’t think she will have a hard time with 1,600 metres.”
Clément Troprès, manager of owner Infinity Nine Horses, added: “The team wins the first group race in its history with a magnificent filly. It’s now rest for Mangoustine before dreaming of a Classic season if the winter goes well.”
Zotilla is a Zamindar granddaughter of the highly successful producer Flanders via her Grade 3-winning daughter Louvain, making her a half-sister to the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Flotilla. She has a yearling colt by Zoustar and visited Too Darn Hot this year.
