Champion sprinter Mince foals Gleneagles filly; now visits Decorated Knight
28 April 2020
A busy end to the month featured a lovely new addition in a Gleneagles filly out of champion sprinter Mince foaled on April 23.
The daughter of Medicean was acquired out of the Rothschild family’s Waddesdon Stud dispersal at last year’s Tattersalls December Sale for 130,000gns with an eye to sending her to our multiple Group 1 winner Decorated Knight.
A very fast and tough filly, Mince was trained by Roger Charlton to win eight races. She enjoyed her finest moment when taking the Group 3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot while she also won the Listed Garrowby, Flying Fillies and Boadicea Stakes.
Following her three-year-old season, Mince was rated the Champion 3yo Sprinter in Europe.
Mince is one of four winners out of Strut, another talented sprinter who won the Listed St. Hugh’s Stakes. This is one of Lady Rothschild’s original families that goes back to the Listed-placed Bay Bay.
April 23 also featured the birth of a filly by the very fast French-based Penny’s Picnic out of Tarawa, a relation to Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye heroine Gilt Edge Girl – herself also a member of the Blue Diamond broodmare band. Both are also destined to visit Decorated Knight in 2020 as is Missy O’Gwaun, whose latest foal is a daughter of leading French sire Siyouni.
The filly is the second foal of 2020 by Siyouni for the stud following a striking colt out of Rose Of Miracles.
The winning Missy O’Gwaun is the dam of a winner and a half-sister to Group 2 winner Knight To Behold in addition to Group 3 scorers Cosmo Meadow and Beauty O’Gwaun. It’s a fine Neil Jones/Ballymacoll Stud family that also includes St Leger hero Millenary and the Oaks third Lady Of Dubai.
