Breeders sending mares to Decorated Knight this season will be entitled to a free nomination for 2022, the Irish National Stud has announced.

The son of Galileo, who will have his first two-year-olds hit the track this year, has stood at the Irish National Stud since 2018 and has been well supported in his second career by racing owners Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar.

Hailing from the outstanding family of the great Giant’s Causeway, Freud and You’resothrilling, the dam of Gleneagles, Marvellous and Happily, Decorated Knight will stand for a fee of €7,500 this term.

The nine-year-old was a three-time Group 1 winner for Roger Charlton on the track, including in the 2017 Irish Champion Stakes – seeing off the challenge of Poet’s Word – plus the Tattersalls Gold Cup earlier on that season.

Decorated Knight covered a debut book of 66 mares in 2018, which increased to 79 in 2019 and stepped up to 122 last year.

Among the 22 mares sent to the stallion from Blue Diamond Stud were Group 1-winning sprinter Gilt Edge Girl – purchased for €200,000 in partnership with the Irish National Stud at the Goffs November Sale in 2019 – Group 3 winner Sweet Gentle Kiss and stakes performers Lady Ramon, Maiden Voyage and Queens Harbour.

Trainers who have his first juveniles include Charlton, Richard Hannon, John Gosden, Roger Varian, John Quinn, Mark Johnston and Sir Mark Prescott.
