Classic winner
The Jeremy Noseda-trained Araafa is best remembered for lowering the colours of the brilliant George Washington in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. Araafa ran out the two-length winner of the Classic that day under Alan Munro and confirmed himself as a miler out of the top drawer when defeating the top French colt Stormy River to take the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The son of Mull Of Kintyre also ran second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and fourth in the 2,000 Guineas.
Araafa later stood at Plantation Stud in Newmarket.
