BDS-bred Sashay Away impressive in debut score at Ellis
22 July 2024
Sashay Away became the latest representative to put the Blue Diamond Stud 2yo crop in lights when the emphatic winner of her debut at Ellis Park.
The daughter of Curlin was bred by Imad Alsagar in Kentucky out of I'm Wonderful and was raised at Royal Oak Farm.
Trained by Robert Medina on behalf of a partnership headed by Bradley Thoroughbreds, Sashay Away looked a filly to follow on Sunday, with enough early speed to sit just behind the leaders before bursting through a gap to win going away. Incidentally she was partnered to success by Adam Beschizza, who also rode our former Group winner Green Destiny to victory as a three pound claimer in the 2011 John Smith's Cup at York.
Sashay Away (pictured as a yearling) is the third foal out of I'm Wonderful, a Giant's Causeway sister to Grade 1 winner Carpe Diem. Out of prolific producer Rebridled Dreams, the mare is also a half-sister to Grade 1 winner J B's Thunder, Grade 2 winner Farrell and classy British sprinter Doncaster Rover.
I'm Wonderful has made a swift start at stud herself since her first foal is Wonderful Justice, our homebred winner of last year's Black Gold Stakes at Fair Grounds.
I'm Wonderful has a colt foal by Blame (pictured) and is in foal to Tapit.
Sashay Away joins a list of winning 2yo graduates of Blue Diamond Stud that also comprises the well-regarded Curragh maiden scorer Hotazhell, Hamilton debut winner Milford and last week's Leicester nursery winner Hackney Diamonds.
