BDS-bred Londoner wins impressively for Ballydoyle
21 October 2022
Londoner, co-bred by Blue Diamond Stud with the Irish National Stud, looked a colt with a bright future for Aidan O’Brien and the Coolmore team on Friday when running away with his second start, a competitive maiden at Dundalk.
Having clearly learnt from his debut at Navan, when fourth, Londoner was always to the fore under Seamie Heffernan and only had to be shaken up to win by four lengths.
Stable representative Chris Armstrong told Irishracing.com: “Seamus gave him a lovely ride and he knew him from his last run in Navan. He appreciated the nicer ground but he still had a lovely run the first day.
“Seamus was very happy with him. He’ll be a nice horse for next year and will probably start off at a mile and a quarter.
“He is by the right sire, Saxon Warrior, who is having winners every day. He has a lovely attitude and is a horse to look forward to next year.
“He came on a lot from his first run and when Seamus asked him to go about the business he quickened away nicely.
“The second horse (Cape Bridgewater) ran a lovely race. He has come on a lot from his first run, so they are all going forward nicely.”
The son of Saxon Warrior was bred by Blue Diamond out of the top sprinter Gilt Edge Girl, whose victories for Clive Cox included the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye and Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes. Also dam of Listed winner Time’s Arrow, the daughter of Monsieur Bond is a half-sister to Flying Childers Stakes winner Godfrey Street and from a successful Aga Khan family more associated in recent years with Whitsbury Manor and Downclose Studs.
Gilt Edge Girl sadly died in 2021 but left behind a daughter of Decorated Knight, now a yearling who is being retained.
