BDS-bred Gentleman Joe looks smart at Kempton

17 March 2021

Gentleman Joe, bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar at Blue Diamond Stud, appears to have an extremely bright future judged on his impressive win second time out at Kempton on Wednesday evening.

Always prominent under Rhys Clutterbuck, the son of Authorized justified market expectations by sweeping past the leader and quickening clear for a three-and-a-quarter length success.

“Today he’s proven he’s more than capable, he’s very nice,” Clutterbuck told Racing TV. “He jumped slow, he’s still green, but he travelled away and once we got up the inside, he quickened up well. He hit the front and backed off a bit but I gave him a couple and he went away from them. He’s progressing into a very nice horse.”

Trained by Joe Tuite on behalf of Paul Hancock, Gentleman Joe becomes the second winner from as many foalsout of our homebred Bella Lulu. Her first foal is Imad Al Sagar’s exciting Faisal, who won both his starts for John Gosden last year.

Bella Lulu’s two-year-old filly by Muhaarar is also now owned by Imad Al Sagar and in training with Clive Cox.

Bella Lula, a daughter of Iffraaj who carried our colours to victory at Doncaster as a three-year-old, is a half-sister to our multiple stakes-winning sprinter Justineo, and out of Loulwa, who won the Listed River Eden Stakes for us at Lingfield.

What makes Gentleman Joe particularly exciting is that he is a son of champion Authorized, winner of the Derby, Racing Post Trophy and Juddmonte International in our colours.
