BDS-bred Cozone impressive on handicap debut
16 July 2020
Cozone, bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar at Blue Diamond Stud, made light of a tardy start at Sandown on Thursday to land a deserved first success in the 1m2f three-year-old handicap.
Cozone was sent off favourite off the back of a good second in novice company last time out at Kempton Park but backers would have been tearing up their tickets following the colt’s slow start. Still behind a wall of horses as the runners turned for home, he did however produce a fine turn of foot to storm up the inner once a gap appeared and ultimately won going away under Martin Dwyer.
By Pour Moi, Cozone is the first foal out of fellow BDS-bred Bella Nouf.
Bella Nouf, by Dansili, won twice for Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar but, more importantly, is a daughter of our foundation mare Majestic Sakeena.
Purchased by Tony Nerses to join the stud in 2006, Majestic Sakeena rewarded that outlay in spades as the dam of dual Listed winner Nouriya, herself dam of our Royal Ascot Group 2 winner Aljazzi, and the Listed-placed Yuften and Lady Nouf.
Plenty of this family remain at Blue Diamond Stud; indeed, Nouriya is also the dam of our promising three-year-old Majestic Sakeena.
Cozone was a 200,000gns yearling purchase by Peter and Ross Doyle out of Jamie Railton’s draft at Book 1 of the 2018 Tattersalls October Sale.
