Another winner for Sayif
9 May 2016
Sayif’s good run continued on Monday when King Of Castilla broke his maiden for Gay Kelleway and Rioja Racing at Wolverhampton.
The colt, bred by Llety Farms out of the Wolfhound mare Thicket, becomes the stallion’s second winner from just six runners. Another two have been placed, including our highly promising Gulliver, who was a staying on fourth in a competitive maiden at Newmarket on 1,000 Guineas day.
Sayif was a high-class two-year-old and sprinter who was placed four times at Group level as a two-year-old, notably when second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and Group 2 July Stakes. He trained on to win the Group 2 Diadem Stakes at Ascot by 2 1/2 lengths as a three-year-old, in which he beat a field of top older sprinters.
A member of the increasingly powerful Green Desert sire line, Sayif was well supported in his first season by Blue Diamond Stud, who sent him the half-sisters to Group 1 performers such as Crowded House, Equiano, Kingsgate Native and Rob Roy. The resulting foals are now in training with the likes of Marco Botti, Hugo Palmer, Michael Bell and Johnny Murtagh.
