Another day, another winner for Decorated Knight.
A day following the promising success of Kind Gesture at Wetherby, it was the turn of Shahnaz to shine on Wednesday, with the filly turning in a determined display to get off the mark at Hamilton Park.
Previously fourth at Wolverhampton for trainer Gemma Tutty, the filly showed further improvement on Wednesday, staying on from the rear of the field to win with something in hand. In the process, she became the first Flat winner for owner Maximum Racing.
“She was showing plenty at home,” said Gemma Tutty. “Obviously we had the weight for age allowance too. We were a bit concerned about the ground but we thought we’d take out chance on it and thankfully it’s paid off. Once she did get on top, she hit the line strong and the jockey [Sam James] was hopeful that there’s more to come from her too.”
Shahnaz was bred by Dermot and Meta Cantillon’s Tinnakill Bloodstock in Ireland but possesses strong Blue Diamond connections as a daughter of Fol O’Yasmine, a Dubawi half-sister to high-class sprinter Sayif who was bred here at the stud. She is the second foal out of her dam, who carried our colours to victory at Yarmouth.
Shahnaz also continues the purple patch enjoyed by Decorated Knight, for whom the past ten days have featured promising wins by Knight Of Honour, who won easily in good company at Goodwood for John and Thady Gosden on Sunday, Kind Gesture, who won at the second time of asking for Prince A A Faisal and Roger Varian at Wetherby on Tuesday, and Knightswood, who ran out an impressive winner at Redcar for Mark and Charlie Johnston last week.
Decorated Knight‘s productive patch also includes the recent Danish 2,000 Guineas winner Charming Knight.
